We are back featuring more moodboards from our Atlanta residential renovation project!
To catch you up, the main objective of this home transformation is to blend our clients’ two differing interior design styles into one cohesive, welcoming space. We kicked things off in the entryway, then moved through the dining room and library. Now, we are tackling one of the most important spaces in the home: the family room.
The Design Brief: A Functional, Clutter-Free Living Space
When creating a family room design, understanding how the space will be used is key. Here is what our clients requested for their main gathering area:
- Flexible Seating: They love the idea of a sectional and two chairs—perfect for family movie nights or hanging out with guests.
- Playful Accents: They are very open to intentional pops of color.
- Minimalist Vibe: They do not want this space to feel cluttered.
To deliver on this, both of our design schemes utilize crisp white wall paint and white gauzy linen drapes as a neutral backdrop. From there, we layered in a cozy sectional, loungey seating, a large area rug, coffee and side tables, and layered lighting.
The furnishings beautifully bridge the gap between mid-century modern and transitional design.
Two Moodboards, Two Different Color Palettes
Because the clients want a blend of styles, we created two distinct design concepts to show how color and texture can completely shift the mood of a room.
Scheme 1: Bold Contrast & Geometric Patterns
The first scheme focuses on high-contrast drama. We anchored the room with a geometric rug featuring striking black and navy stripes, then layered on charcoal pillows and deep navy ottomans. It’s a sophisticated look that feels grounded yet energetic.
Scheme 2: Earthy Tones & Warm Hues
The second scheme leans into a sweeter, earthier color palette. We selected a stunning peachy-tan colored sofa as the focal point, paired with a vintage-inspired rug that pulls out subtle blues and greens. This option feels incredibly warm, organic, and inviting.
Which Family Room Style Predicts Your Vibe?
Blending two different design preferences doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style. Whether you lean toward bold contrast or earthy warmth, you can create a functional, clutter-free space that feels like home.
