We’re back at the Pennsylvania lake house this week — this time drilling down into the living and dining areas. With an open-concept layout and a compact footprint, we’re focusing on smart moves that make the space feel generous and grounded. A sectional anchors the living room, with clear sightlines to the dining area just beyond, so cohesion across materials and color was key. Today we’re presenting two schemes that play with texture, contrast, and tone — both rooted in natural finishes that reflect the wooded surroundings.
Our first scheme keeps things light but warm, pairing terrazzo tile with pale wood cladding and sage green accents. A rust-hued pendant over the dining area brings in a hit of color without overwhelming the palette. It’s refined, relaxed, and easy to live with — a palette that feels right at home in any season.

In this second scheme we’ve swapped terrazzo for taupe concrete tile and introduced richer hues through the lighting: brick red spotlights and a chocolate brown pendant. The wood cladding stays consistent, but the overall feel is a bit weightier and more tactile. Still approachable, just with a bit more punch.

We’re excited to see how these come together with the rest of the house. Stay tuned as we keep refining the details and share more from this project!
