This Moodboard Monday, we are closing out the preliminary design schemes for our local Atlanta residential project—and we definitely saved the best for last: the primary bedroom!

If you’ve been following along, we’ve already shared our first-round concepts for the entry, dining room, library, family room, kitchen and breakfast nook, and the powder room. Now, it’s time to dive into the ultimate sanctuary of the home.

Maximizing Light and Closet Space

For this room, our clients came to us with a specific challenge: they needed more storage but didn’t want to sacrifice the beautiful natural light flowing into the space.

To solve this, we designed a custom primary bedroom layout featuring a floating bed. This clever space-planning trick creates a dedicated dressing area right upon entering the room, seamlessly making up for the home’s smaller closets. By keeping the bed frame at a low profile, we ensure the natural light remains completely unobstructed.

Design Tip: Floating a low-profile bed is an excellent way to zone a bedroom and create hidden storage or dressing zones without building permanent walls.

The Moodboards: 2 Color Schemes

Our clients wanted the bedroom to feel light, calm, and connected to the rest of the home’s natural color palette. We narrowed the wall color options down to soft light blues and soothing light greens.

Here are the two distinct design directions we created:

Scheme 1: Calm Blues, Greens, & Earthy Neutrals

The first scheme leans heavily into a serene, nature-inspired palette.

  • The Palette: A soothing mix of soft blues, muted greens, and warm neutrals.
  • The Focal Point: A cozy, olive-toned upholstered bed that grounds the room and adds rich texture.

Scheme 2: Warm Woods & Contrast

The second scheme injects a bit more warmth and architectural interest into the space.

  • The Palette: We brought in contrasting red and pink tones that feel sophisticated rather than overly bright.
  • The Focal Point: A custom, curved wood-paneled bed that perfectly complements the warmer accent colors.
